judges' critiques

“Thoughtful, innovative, and demonstrates a socially responsive design.”

“The metaphor of tidal movement as a symbol of transformation and reintegration is both poetic and powerful.”

“Demonstrates a mature understanding of spatial justice, user-centred design, and architectural storytelling.”

A 2,326.9sqm multi-typology masterplan addressing the £18B UK reoffending crisis. Synthesising public F&B enterprise, evidence-based mental health facilities, and non-punitive acoustic environments to optimise post-custody transition for His Majesty’s Prison Service (HMPS).

Methodology

01
SPATIAL ANALYTICS & URBAN DYNAMICS
02

Utilising high-fidelity spatial data and foot-traffic profiling to decode urban flows, balancing high-density commercial footprints with optimized spatial programming that aligns with operational, fiscal, and accessibility mandates.

REGULATORY & TECHNICAL STRATEGY

Applying rigorous architectural and engineering logic to complex multi-level structures—navigating statutory building codes (Docs K, M, B, DDA), floor-drop adjustments, structural clearances, and adaptive reuse within historic footprints.

03
CIRCULAR MATERIAL LOGIC
04

Evaluating lifecycle environmental impact to specify low-VOC, circular, and bio-based material systems—replacing traditional stone with bio-Jesmonite, pozzolana clay plasters, mycelium acoustic panels, and reclaimed timber without compromising technical durability.

EMPIRICAL & BIOPHILIC DESIGN

Bridging empirical spatial psychology and biophilic principles (acoustic isolation, natural light redistribution, non-institutional palettes) to lower cortisol levels, de-escalate stress, and foster long-term user health and inclusivity.
